NABARD supported Climate proofing Watershed Schemes:
Sri Sakthi Trust has completed three watershed schemes, two in( Soolapuram and Pappinaikkenpatti )Madurai District and one (Ayyampalayam) in Dindigul District under the guidance of Tamil Nadu Watershed Development Agency (Dept. of Agriculture) and NABARD. And one Climate Proofing Project with the support of NABARD & Adaptation Fund Board (UNFCCC project).
Through these projects, along with soil and water conservation, we have given various training programs towards the socio economic development of the farmers with sustainable agriculture practices via climate resilient activities like crop rotation; crop diversification based on weather based agro-advisory services. We also worked towards improving the knowledge of the farmers on climate change. In this project, we have covered a total area of around 6000 ha with 10,000 direct and indirect farmer beneficiaries.
Through these projects, along with soil and water conservation, we have conducted various training programs aimed at the socio-economic development of farmers through sustainable agriculture practices. These practices include climate-resilient activities such as crop rotation and crop diversification based on weather-based agro-advisory services.
Additionally, we have worked to enhance farmers’ knowledge of climate change by providing services like summer ploughing, well recharge pits, deep tillage, fodder development, Azolla development, vermi-compost, micro sprinklers, integrated farming systems, tank silt application, soil testing, backyard poultry, kitchen gardens, bio-gas production, automatic weather stations, agricultural equipment, RML subscriptions, run-off measurements, geo-hydrological studies, posters and pamphlets, awareness and mobilization campaigns, exposure visits to Tamil Nadu Agriculture University- Coimbatore , Coconut development Board- Cochin, and Etc. through our Village Knowledge Center .
Programs through District Watershed Development Agency:
We conducted a Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) Exercise and capacity-building training program for watershed communities in Madurai, Dindigul, and Theni Districts through IWMP and ATMA projects.
With the support of the Agriculture Department, Tamil Nadu Agricuture University (TNAU), and KVK, we introduced hi-tech agricultural practices through various training programs for the farming community. These programs enable farmers to enhance their knowledge of various traditional practices. A few are listed below,
- Cotton Cultivation.
- Value added products of millets and pulses.
- SRI cultivation of paddy.
- Vegetables cultivation in poly-houses.
- Use of machineries.
- Goat rearing.
- Fodder development & Livestock management.
- Drip and sprinkler irrigation technology.
- Climate Proofing activities
Through our organization’s agricultural training programs, farmers have gained valuable knowledge and skills in various technologies for agricultural development. These initiatives have played a crucial role in empowering farmers to generate a sustainable income. Additionally, with the support and implementation of projects facilitated by NABARD and the Tamil Nadu Department of Agriculture, there has been a notable increase in crop yields, leading to improved income for farmers.
